Safeguarding

Skelton School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment.

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, links to these can be found below.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies if and when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's safety and welfare.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism and are also part of Operation Encompass which ensures that children who witness domestic violence and abuse are supported.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is our Headteacher, Mr Sam King.

Our two Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are Mrs Helen Newton (Teacher) and Miss Sophie Dobinson (Teacher & SENDCo).  These staff are fully trained to deal with any safeguarding queries.  Additionally, all staff and governors receive safeguarding training on an ongoing basis.

The Governor with responsibility for safeguarding in our school is Helen Evans.

If you are a member of the public with a concern about a child please contact the Cumbria Safeguarding Hub on 0333 240 1727.
