Music

Music, like art, is a powerful medium for the expression of emotions and ideas. A range of music from different cultures and times is used to develop children’s listening skills and provide the stimulus for composing and performing. There is an emphasis on enjoyment of singing and the opportunity for learning to play a musical instrument with peripatetic teachers is provided. Regular music lessons are enhanced by resources such as Charanga, an online suite of music resources which is used throughout the school - relevant and supporting documentation can be found below. Pupils of all ages are given a variety of opportunities to perform as a group and individually throughout their time in school. A choir is organised for Key Stage 2 children in alternate years. We take an active part in musical projects with other schools such as a joint Christmas Carol Concert in Penrith. Periodically, we invite musicians into school for standalone or longer term projects designed to promote understanding of different musical traditions through singing, percussion and instrumental music.
