Religious Education takes two broad forms: learning about religion and learning about oneself from religion.
As we are a community school, religious education is not of a doctrinal or denominational nature. Our RE teaching follows the Cumbria Agreed Syllabus (see below) and is planned to encompass a wide variety of themes such as the study of sacred texts and symbols or the life of Jesus and other religious leaders.
Children develop an awareness and knowledge of Christianity and other major world religions and an understanding of different beliefs. Assemblies are led by different members of staff and aim to be engaging and thought-provoking, encouraging children to reflect and develop their own values and beliefs.
Visitors to the school are welcomed from different faiths and backgrounds to share knowledge and information wiht the children. NISCU also provide materials and support to schools as well as delivering assemblies.
