Skelton School Uniform Policy

At Skelton School, we believe that wearing a school uniform fosters a sense of belonging and pride in our community, promotes equality, and ensures a focus on learning. Our uniform policy is simple, practical, and designed to reflect our small, family-oriented ethos.

School Uniform

All pupils are expected to wear the following uniform:

  • Sweatshirt or Cardigan: Bottle green (no hoodies on school uniform days).
  • Polo Shirt: White or bottle green.
  • Trousers, Skirt, Pinafore, or Shorts: Grey or black.
  • Summer Dresses (Optional in Warmer Weather): Green and white checks.
  • Shoes: Smart black school shoes (no black trainers or canvas shoes).
  • Socks/Tights: Plain black, grey, bottle green, or white.
  • Bookbag: Bottle green.

For Nursery Children

Nursery-aged children may wear:

  • Full uniform, part uniform, or non-uniform – whichever suits their needs.
  • A pair of wellies, kept in school, is recommended for outdoor learning and play.

 

Optional Items for all children to keep in School

  • Painting Apron/Overshirt: To protect clothing during art and creative activities.

 

PE Kit

It is important that pupils have appropriate clothing for physical activities. Our PE kit includes:

  • Round Neck T-Shirt: White.
  • Shorts: Plain black.
  • Tracksuit Bottoms/Leggings: Plain black (for colder weather).
  • Hoody/Jumper/Fleece: Plain black or bottle green.
  • Trainers/Plimsolls: Suitable for indoor and outdoor PE.
  • Football Boots with Studs (Optional): ‘Blade’ style studs are not permitted.
  • PE Bag: To store PE items – this may be useful for days where kit is needed for an after school sports club. 

 

KS2 pupils will also need appropriate swimwear for the summer term:

  • One-piece swimsuits for girls (no bikinis).
  • Swimming trunks or shorts for boys.

PE Days: Details will be shared with each class regarding PE days and arrangements for changing.  To maximise learning time on PE days children are required to arrive at school wearing their PE kit.  Children in Reception will need to bring their uniform to change into as it is a requirement of their curriculum to learn to dress and undress independently. 

Note: Pupils are not permitted to take part in PE wearing their school uniform or without trainers or plimsolls.

 

General Guidelines

  • All clothing, footwear, and swimwear must be clearly marked with your child’s name or initials.
  • No nail varnish or make-up is allowed.
  • Jewellery: The wearing of jewellery is not permitted in school, except for:
    • Small, stud earrings.
    • A simple wristwatch (no smartwatches or watches with Bluetooth/internet connectivity).

For PE and Sporting Activities:

  • All jewellery must be removed.
  • Newly pierced ears must be taped. Pupils must provide their own tape for this purpose.

 

Pre-Loved Uniform

A selection of clean, good-quality pre-loved uniform items is available from the school for a voluntary donation of £2 per item. Please visit the school office to browse our stock.
