The International Marmalade Awards take place every year at Dalemain, a stately home near Skelton - this year, at After School Club, we decided that we would make our own marmalade and enter it in to the competition. Mr Holme and Miss Holme have entered before and have won awards so we asked them to help us. The children were all involved in chopping the Seville oranges, clearing out the pips and scooping out the pulp. They carefully measured out the sugar and added the lemon juice. Some of the children decided that they wanted to design a label and, between us, we came up with a name for our marmalade - Skelton's Seville Surprise. We had a spare jar for all our mums and dads to taste and they all agreed, it was YUMMY!
This term, the Year 3 and 4 children are studying the 'Vikings' and are working with Tullie House Museum to set up their own Viking-themed mini-museum in their own classroom. Sarah from Tullie House has already visited us to give us some ideas. We then had a vist to Tullie House to learn about the Vikings and to see how a real museum works. We are now working hard at researching our subject and collecting and making artefacts to put in our museum. Our Grand Opening will take place on the last day of term - we are getting very excited about this and are looking forward to showing it off to our mums and dads!
