Skelton Nursery

Our Vision

We make the most of our quiet rural location to offer a homely, family-oriented environment where children feel confident and excited about making discoveries and developing new skills.

Our Mission Statement

To provide rich and engaging learning experiences and opportunities for play so that every child feels happy and secure and is able to achieve their full potential.

We offer a unique learning setting

  • Homely and supportive Nursery setting.

  • Experienced and caring Nursery staff.

  • Nursery Leader is a qualified primary teacher and adept at preparing children for the transition from Nursery to Reception.

  • Strong links with Skelton School enabling children to encounter a school environment on a regular basis.

  • Small group size enabling personalised care and support.

  • Small group size enabling children to develop strong relationships with their peers, and demonstrate high levels of respect and empathy for each other’s needs.

  • Taps the expertise amongst parents and the local community to provide additional experiences for the children, from music to Forest School to building bug hotels.

  • Well-equipped nursery where children can engage in a diverse range of activities from cooking, gardening, and craft to play in the ‘mud café’.

  • Tranquil rural location where children can play and learn outdoors and go for discovery walks in and around the village and school.

  • Our Nursery was established in 1997. While it has strong links with Skelton School, it’s run independently by a parent management group. This enables us to offer a distinctive, family-oriented environment for children with a high level of personal care and learning support and adopt a flexible approach to respond to parents’ needs.

  • Our centre was purpose built in 2002 and is in a tranquil rural setting with a large outdoor play area as well as access to Skelton School grounds. We make full use of our environment to ensure that our children are able to play and learn outdoors as often as possible. The children not only learn about their environment but they take an active part in its care. One of the key features of our outdoor setting is our willow ‘igloo’ , a popular imaginative space for children.

  • Our Nursery was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2014.
